Clover, Small and Mighty

We said goodbye to our beloved 15 year old mighty mouser, Clover, last Tuesday.

Clover was found on the west side streets of Pensacola, Florida around 2007 and fit in the palm of a human hand. The Watts family nurtured her into an 8 pound, strong feline companion who bossed around her canine Lab and Jack Russel sisters, Sophie and Maggie. At age 5 she moved from downtown to East Hill Pensacola to be an only pet with the Hunter family. She enjoyed solitude until age 11 when she became a sister to Lary the Lab. She easily adjusted to the beach life for a couple of years on Soldier’s Creek in Perdido Beach, Alabama, and in her last year and a half she stalked mice, ground squirrels and deer in her backyard in the ski town of Whitefish, Montana.

Clover was a wild thing, so it delighted and amused her humans when she chose to follow them into downtown bank lobbies and on neighborhood walks. She generally preferred having her own space, the outdoors, napping on the porch or in the shade of shrubs, rolling in mulch and dirt, and chasing large dogs out of her territory. Her last days were spent napping in a comfy chair blanketed by sunlight and next to a warm wood burning stove.

We thank our friends, Lynette, Dechay, and Rich, who brought her into our lives and we thank all those who looked after her occasionally.
