I was in the passenger seat blazing north at 75 miles per hour on I-95 somewhere between south Florida & Gainesville when I first read about the practice of the 3 words via a newsletter from Chris Brogan. At time of my first go at it December 2019 I had set big life changes in motion. Now I am settling in. I moved to Montana in April. I am in titration mode so to speak. As much as I wanted to pick 2 words for 2022 because it sounds fun, it is simply, luxuriously, only one.
SPACE
As in…
– Daily structure around a foundation of activities which support my overall well-being: movement & somatic care as well as cognitive & tactile creative pursuits (writing, hand-stitched coasters or learning to play the melodica).
– Slow it down – One thing at a time at work. e.g. Not eyeballing slack whilst in webex
– Pauses in the work day, e.g. mental breaks, lunch away from my desk, casual virtual tea time with co-workers
– More space, pauses, in all conversations.
WHAT IS THIS FOR?
-to make adjustments, re-pattern for my well-being & for even better connections with myself and other humans. More specifically, it’s about rhythms and a steady state…of footing. How will I know when my titration is complete? Of course there won’t be a color change or some cool precipitate. Here’s how I will know that I’ve met the aspirations I associate with space:
The low bar – A few blog posts published here or on testness AND I can play a couple of tunes on my 37-note Yahama Pianica AND I have completed sewing v3.0 of big stitch coasters AND there’s a stream of swim, yoga & tea time appointments (kept!) on my calendar.
The high bar – low bar items + no more neck crunchies (desk-time related symptoms) + less of me thinking out loud at work (confirmed via feedback from those with whom I work with closely).
MY WISH FOR YOU FOR 2022
May you tap into your power (creativity) and share it with others. Be well!
